Just getting started!

I saw your ad  a couple weeks ago asking for metal to build an art project and bookmarked it. I don't have any metal for you, but I'm interested in possibly doing some side work welding on my own. Did you start your business as a hobbyist on evenings or weekends or are your a welder by trade? How do you find work (classifieds, word of mouth, etc.)?

If it matters I'm 2 hours away from KC (1 hour north and 1 hour west) so I wouldn't be in competition with you. I'm just looking for tips or advice.

I was a union Ironworker for almost 20 years. I was hurt on the job and the doctors told me I should not do Ironworking as it is so hard on the body. I always had a welder at home and would weld anything the locals needed. Now that I am home I have more time to do this type of thing. I have started making Sunflowers and mole mills. Most of the work I do is from word of mouth. Just get out there and do very good work!
